Description :
The ADC has been gazetted by the Minister for Home Affairs, pursuant to the Migration Act 1958, Migration Regulations amendment 1999, 2.26B, to perform the skills assessment function for migration purposes for the occupation of registered dentist.
Dental prosthetists are required to be assessed by Trades Recognition Australia.
ADC assessment process
The ADC has two types of assessment. These are:
- Assessment of the applicant’s educational background, qualifications including testamur and transcripts, work experience, and professional standing.
- Assessment by written and practical examination of the applicant’s clinical knowledge, clinical judgment, clinical skills, attitudes, and ethics.
Not all applicants are required to undertake both ADC assessments.
The ADC has standards that apply to assessments. The assessment process consists of:
- measurement of the applicants documents and skills against the ADC standards
- notification to the applicant of the outcome of the assessment
- information regarding review and appeals processes.

Assessment standards
Standard one
Identity and authority to act (if applicable)
The applicant is able to establish their identity in relation to the documents submitted and give the authority for another person to act on their behalf if desired e.g. migration agent.
The Standard is met when the applicant’s identity is established.

Standard two
Confirmation of education and training
The applicant is able to demonstrate via certified copies of original qualification and transcripts that they have undertaken the required education and training.
The Standard is met when the applicant has a minimum qualification(s) at the required level that is comparable in duration and content to the nationally agreed minimal education standard for the relevant dental practitioner in Australia.

Standard three
Appropriate work experience and registration history
The applicant is able to demonstrate evidence of registration and good conduct as a dental practitioner.
The Standard is met when the applicant is able to demonstrate that they have met registration/licensure requirements and have practiced in a professionally acceptable manner.

The applicant arranges for a letter/certificate of good standing to be issued to the ADC. | The letter/certificate is sent directly to the ADC from the current registration authority. |
Standard four
Hold the requisite clinical knowledge, judgement, skills, competency, and attributes
The applicant is able to demonstrate that they have the professional ability to perform safely in the role of a dental practitioner in Australia.
The Standard is met when the applicant has successfully completed and passed the written clinical knowledge, judgement, attitudes and ethics examination; and, the clinical practical examination.
