Senior Australian business leaders have urged the next federal government to address the nation's labour shortage by increasing immigration to fill job vacancies, expressing concern that failure to do so could lead to a slowdown in economic growth. From BHP to small café owners, labour shortages are hindering business. Unfilled positions range from train drivers to waiters to miners. In part, the decline in immigration over the past two years, when the government closed the international border, has contributed to Australia's labour shortage.
